NJPIRG Campus Organizer: Rutgers University - Camden
Think America can do better? NJPIRG does.
NJPIRG campus organizers tap into the idealism and energy of students, helping student volunteers and activists turn their concerns into effective action. We have a 40-year history of advocating for students, the environment and consumers by standing up for the public in the face of powerful interests and winning real results.
Last year, NJPIRG campus organizers, student volunteers and interns worked on campaigns to protect student financial aid, fight hunger and homelessness in their local communities, protect consumers from toxic chemicals and more. A top priority was our campaign to increase energy efficiency in New Jersey – students and staff educated over 10,000 K-12 kids, conducted hundreds of energy audits, and provided direct service to their communities by weatherizing dorms, homeless shelters, and schools.
As a campus organizer at Rutgers University – Camden you would recruit and train volunteers, teach an internship class on activism skills, build relationships with faculty and administrators, hold events with decision-maker, and generate the grassroots support it takes to win campaigns. Campus organizers also learn to canvass door-to-door during the academic year and run our highly effective citizen outreach campaigns in the summer months.
This fall students at RU – Camden are excited to be part of the New Voters Project. Since 1984 the Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project has registered over 1.7 million young people across the country because we believe democracy is strongest when citizens participate and for too long, young people haven't been full participants. As a campus organizer you would run a non-partisan voter registration and turnout campaign at RU – Camden, turning out students to the polls for the 2012 election and using our vote to raise our voice.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are ready to work hard and commit themselves to getting results.
