Position Summary: The After School Program Coordinator (ASP Coordinator) is a full time position within the Office of Extended Services. In order to deliver the best possible program for the students at Drew Charter School, we are looking for an ASP Coordinator that will help take the program to a level that will set the standard in the Atlanta area. As the East Lake model becomes replicable throughout the United States, we stand poised to create a model After School Program as well. The ASP Coordinator will take the lead with this complex program, which serves 250+ students on a daily basis. This will include programmatic and supportive responsibilities in the Office of Extended Services, as well as managerial duties. This list is an overview of the position and can be modified to meet the needs of the parents, students, the Office of Extended Services, or Drew Charter School.
Duties & Responsibilities
Implements grant-funded program at an exceptional level, including reporting, evaluating, and program management.
Manages site-based program staff, including academic and enrichment teachers and part-time administrative assistants. Supports staff by coordinating regular staff trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Maintains records of student registration, attendance, and payments and updates required parties on a regular basis.
Coordinates use of ASP curriculum by training staff and teachers, implementing any pre- and post-tests with students, ensuring availability of curriculum that meets students needs, and communicating with all parties regarding academic performance and evaluations.
Communicates with families regarding schedules, programming, pick-up, meetings, etc. Updates ASP blog and sends newsletter to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
Embraces a youth-centered approach to student programming, involving youth at all levels of program management.
Creates additional opportunities and implements the programs such as Parents Day/Week in ASP, Fun Fridays, fundraisers, special events, Parents Days Off and volunteer involvement.
Maintains a safe, warm, engaging, and attractive environment in the Office of Extended Services and during the ASP.
Manages facilities and logistics on a daily basis.
Serves as a link between daytime staff and after school program.
Participates regularly in staff and program observations and evaluations at all levels, including self-evaluation, as needed.
Work hours from 10:00am 7:00 pm daily, with a 1-hour paid lunch break.
A qualified candidate will have a BA in education, youth development, or a related field. Candidate will have at least 2 years of experience successfully leading educational programs for children and their families. Candidate should be familiar with the needs, interests, and abilities of children ages 5-14. Supervisory experience is preferred. Candidate should possess excellent leadership, communications, organizational and conflict resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships with children, families, program and school staff, and other related parties. Strong youth development and behavior management skills will be helpful, as will creativity, patience, and a good sense of humor. This person should have enthusiasm for community building and revitalization efforts, excellent public speaking skills and a belief in the mission of Charles R. Drew Charter School. Candidate should possess the ability to work independently and as part of a staff team towards a common goal. Candidate will have vision and energy that surpasses expectations. Candidate must have reliable transportation and be willing to work evenings and weekends occasionally, as needed.
