Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education ("Ashe"), a long-standing nonprofit organization in the city of Philadelphia, is in search of Director of Neighborhood-Based Programs to manage a significant collection of youth tennis and education programs in communities throughout Philadelphia. The mission of Ashe is to create and promote opportunities to improve the quality of life of young people through tennis and education. To effectively carry out this mission, we have built a hub and spoke program model in which we manage year-round programming at our brand new Center on Ridge Avenue in East Falls, along with a rich collection of synergistic programs, all in neighborhoods across Philadelphia and Camden, NJ. These neighborhood programs include the National Junior Tennis League, a program with 40 years of history; the AfterSchool Tennis N Tutoring program, which takes place in collaboration with other community-based organizations; and a more in-depth community building initiative called Love 2 Serve which is currently centered in North Philadelphia. Combined, these programs have served over 80 sites each year. Our organization is currently in the midst of an exciting time for change and growth. The Director of Neighborhood-Based Programs must bring a high level of creativity, competency, and energy which is compatible with the culture of our organization.
Responsibilities
Holistic management of all of Arthur Ashe's neighborhood-based programs with the following specific responsibilities: " Program design, implementation, and continuous improvement " Program data collection " Hiring and managing up to 200 part-time employees " Creating and managing program budgets " Forming and nurturing strategic partnerships with community based organizations, School District of Philadelphia, and relevant City of Philadelphia departments and agencies " Actively participate in conceptualizing and implementing new neighborhood-based initiatives " Actively participating with senior colleagues in conversations regarding reports for fund development with individuals, foundations, corporations, etc. to sustain and grow various neighborhood-based program initiatives. " Participating as an active member of the Arthur Ashe Senior Leadership team " Presentations and participation in various board/committee meetings
Skills and Experience
" Requires background in tennis knowledge with the ability to evaluate and improve all aspects of grassroots tennis programs " Successful track record in managing multidimensional programs, ideally programs dealing with youth, education, tennis/sports, or community development initiatives " Possessing comfort level with multitasking and self starting " Possessing comfort level and experience in working collectively in diverse communities, ideally in multiple neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia " Proven experience in managing both budgets and personnel, ideally in a multi-site inner-city program " Understanding of the fields of positive youth development, urban education/out of school education, youth sports, and community development " Ability to conceptualize and implement new program initiatives " Experience working in a highly collaborative collegial and interactive environment " Entrepreneurial flair to combine program development with marketing and cultivation of funders to sustain and expand programs
Compensation
This position is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours/week $38,000 to $52,000 based on relevant experience Benefits include: Health benefits, paid vacation, sick days
Reporting
This position reports directly to the President.
