The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) is the nation's oldest and largest advocacy organization dedicated to Colorectal Cancer (CRC). This disease is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the US, second only to smoking related lung cancer. CRC kills as many as Breast Cancer and AIDS combined, yet is arguably the most under-funded disease given it will kill more than 50,000 people each year. 1 in 18 people will be diagnosed with CRC in their lifetime, that's over 150,000 Americans each year. CRC is almost entirely preventable through proper screening and the Colon Cancer Alliance, under its new CEO, intends to rapidly expand it programs and outreach with a primary focus on awareness.
The Director of Development will serve as the chief fundraiser for the CCA. This position reports directly to the CEO and will work closely with other executive level employees. S/he will be responsible for overseeing and managing the overall development activities and will be responsible for developing and cultivating corporate, foundation, individual and major donors, and related outreach in support of the CCAs mission. The Development Director will design and implement a strategic fundraising plan to broaden the base of sustainable financial support needed for the CCA to continue to evolve and grow.
This person will demonstrate a real sense of urgency. S/he will have superior interpersonal skills and will be superb at follow-through, as well as politically knowledgeable and adept at managing a multitude of details.
In 2009, coinciding with its 10th anniversary, the CCA plans to rapidly expand its UNDY5000 5K walk runs to multiple cities, hold various other fundraisers and expand its outreach awareness and screening campaigns to the general population. The Development Director will be responsible for the organizations funding readiness to expand its programs and to fulfill its mission, to end the massive suffering caused by an almost entirely preventable disease.
Responsibilities: Overseeing all Development initiatives at the CCA, ensuring alignment with its mission, strategy and objectives. Creating and implementing a new strategic fundraising plan to significantly increase the CCA's revenue to meet the gravity of this disease, with special attention focused on identifying new funding opportunities in the private and corporate sector while cultivating current and prospective donors. Preparation of high quality grant requests and proposals, reports, and correspondence to obtain funds from existing and potential funders. Devise processes for streamlining funder reporting and budgeting policies and procedures. Executing and managing successful, new individual donor cultivation efforts. Managing annual appeals to bring together supporters and prospects and raise revenue for the organization. Identifying and working with the events team and other employees to help expand the donor base. Represent the CCA at meetings and conferences related to fundraising, in addition to coordinating site visits and other funder events. Work with and increase the Donor Perfect database or other similar fundraising tracking tools to maximize utilization. Establish and lead a development department as the CCA grows.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree and a minimum of 5 years experience with proven measurable and verifiable track record in fundraising required; Masters degree preferred. Ideal candidate will be an Associate Director of Development or Development Director eager to work in a rapidly expanding and important organization with very significant potential for major growth. The CCA's employment culture is an entrepreneurial environment. The candidate must be a self starter, independent thinker and must be able to work without micro-supervision. Exceptional writing and editorial skills required; clear verbal communications skills and polished appearance required. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively, quickly and under pressurewith a sense of humor. The staff of the CCA are highly dedicated, motivated, hard working top notch people and the candidate must be a committed, easy going but hard working serious person, drama free and non disruptive to the professional culture that exists. Ability to prioritize tasks on a daily basis Integrity, professional discretion and professionalism. Strong computer skills: knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point required. The CCA uses Donor Perfect and Convio software so the candidate should be computer savvy to learn these programs and Internet research is required.
