Purpose of Position: Under general direction provide post-award grant management and related accounting duties for public and private grants. This position is the primary contact for grant and contract accounting functions and reporting.
Primary Position Objectives:
1. Performs post-award grant-related functions a. Collaborates with the necessary department staff upon notification of a grant award to establish the appropriate general ledger project code, general ledger accounts, the project code in the time tracking system, and the employees’ time allocation in the time tracking system. b. Reviews the grant award and updates the grant schedule. c. Works with the grant program manager to ensure there is a clear understanding of the deliverables, time tracking requirements, the grant budget and reporting requirements. d. Ensures grant expenditures on a routine basis are properly documented and coded. e. Performs on a monthly basis budget and expense analysis reporting variances as appropriate, determine the amount of grant revenue recognition, prepares required financial reporting, monitors required deliverables reporting and assists with invoice preparation. f. Assists with amending the grant budget with the appropriate fiscal agency, as necessary. g. Ensures all monthly, quarterly and/or annual grant reports are filed accurately and timely. h. Performs grant close out functions. i. Assists with the annual financial audit as requested and any required single audits.
2. Supports the organization in the education and training of grant program managers j. Assess needs and resolve issues of grant program manager related to grant accounting
Experience 1. Minimum BS in finance or accounting 2. 3-5 years of accounting/budget management experience including 1 year of grant accounting 3. Non-profit financial reporting and accounting experience 4. In depth knowledge of OMB Circulars A-110, A-122, and A-133; overhead; fringe benefits and other regulations related to allocations 5. Excellent understanding of financial and accounting principals (GAAP) and can apply to real business situations 6. Excellent computer (Excel, Power Point) skills. Must have good understanding of general ledger packages 7. Comfortable working in a faced-paced environment and implementing change 8. Experience in a highly cooperative environment – where finance takes a highly participatory role in assisting management 9. Critical thinking and problem solving (both big picture and analytically/qualitatively precise) 10. Excellent communications skills 11. Comfortable interfacing with senior level stakeholders
