Project Accesss Mission: Founded in 1999, Project Access is a non-profit organization that assists families and seniors living in low-income housing communities. The organization brings critical services on-site, to help ensure that parents maintain their employment, children stay in school and seniors remain active. Project Access provides services such as after school tutoring, pre-school readiness, healthy snacks, job search assistance, health programs, ESL programs and senior programs. Today, Project Access serves clients in 33 affordable housing communities located in Anaheim, Cypress, East Palo Alto, Fremont, Garden Grove, Hayward, Irvine, La Habra, La Palma, Oakland, Oxnard, Pinole, Redwood City, Riverside, Rowland Heights, San Jose, San Leandro, Santa Ana, Santa Rosa, Torrance, and Westminster.
Position Summary: Project Access is seeking a talented and experienced development professional to lead efforts in Northern California to diversify and expand funding with an emphasis on new corporate supporters and individual donors. This position requires a positive, energetic, creative individual with a broad background in non-profit fundraising and development organization and practice, and a successful track record in major gifts. Knowledge of and experience with Northern California philanthropic and business environments.
Position Responsibilities:
Understand the prospective funding communities for Project Access and develop an aggressive solicitation strategy for corporations and individuals.
In consultation with the CEO & President and the Executive Vice President of Resident Services, create a Northern California Fund Development Plan that details objectives, strategies, targets, and tactics and contains measurable goals.
Implement the Fund Development Plan to achieve aggressive fundraising goals in Northern California.
Lead efforts to expand the individual donor program, including writing direct mail, managing the mail and online giving programs, and creating a major donor prospect cultivation and donor stewardship program.
Coordinate with the Northern California Advisory Council for fundraising support and networking opportunities.
Be an active, hands-on cultivator and solicitor of major gifts.
Take prospective funders on tours of resource centers, providing them with an understanding of what Project Access accomplishes and what is needed.
Develop strategically appropriate and creative presentations tailored to prospective donors and corporate sponsors.
Perform day-to-day development activities and oversee and establish development systems and procedures.
Motivate, involve, and support the staff and Board in successfully raising funds and working together as an effective and coordinated team.
Work with the Director of Marketing to plan and mange special events for Northern California.
Work with the Director of Marketing to plan and participate in Speakers Bureau activities for Northern California.
Manage the fundraising database and the tracking of donors.
In coordination with the Grant Writer, track all foundations that are potential funding targets for Project Access Northern California Centers.
Keep apprised of external factors that could affect fundraising and communicate them to the CEO & President.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree Required in non-profit fundraising management or equivalent experience
Minimum of three years of successful experience directing multi-source development efforts in a nonprofit organization and securing individual gifts of $5,000 and greater; consideration will be given to those who have three years of experience in a for-profit environment using comparable skill sets, e.g. networking with corporate contacts or individuals
Strong commitment to the mission of Project Access
Special event planned giving and successful capital campaign experience preferred
An innovative strategic thinker with demonstrated success in the creation and implementation of development plans and strategies
Experience and track record in designing and leading efforts to raise funds from foundations and individuals, including personally soliciting donors
Ability to represent Project Access to a variety of constituencies and significantly enhance support for Project Access among individuals, corporations, foundations, Board members, Advisory Council members and the general public
Excellent public speaking skills and ability to produce creative and effective presentations
Self-motivated, results-oriented leader, adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing and follow through
An entrepreneurial spirit, a high degree of initiative
Energetic, outgoing and positive personality with proven ability to interact with donors in a thoughtful, professional, diplomatic, and enthusiastic manner
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
High level computer and database skills a plus
