Associate Director of Development - Major Gifts



The Atlanta Ballet has an immediate position available for a full-time Associate Director of Development for Major Gifts. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position will have the primary responsibility for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of current and potential donors with the capacity to make gifts of $10,000 or more in support of the Annual Fund.

For this critical position, we are seeking an individual with strong experience and demonstrated expertise in planning and executing major gift initiatives. This expertise will have been achieved through a 6-10-yr+ progressive career in major gift fundraising, preferably in arts/culture.

Major Accountabilities
• Develop and advance a prospect portfolio of 150-200 major gifts prospects, as assigned by the Director of Development, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
• Identify potential major gift prospects from Ballet patrons and school parents to maintain a robust pipeline for current and future annual campaigns.
• Manage communication with major donors and/or prospective donors through appropriate correspondence (ie; drafting/creating written proposals, stewardship reports, campaign materials, contact reports, etc.).
• Provide staff support to executive leadership, the director of development, and key high-level volunteers in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts.
• Participate in regular donor strategy sessions and staff meetings, preparing and providing timely reports.
• Manage and serve as primary staff for the planned giving society.
• Report progress and financial results to the director of development for integration with the overall departmental financial reporting.
• Manage select special projects, events, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in prospect identification, cultivation/relationship building, solicitation and stewardship.
• Proven record of success in soliciting major and planned gifts and/or staffing volunteers to ask at the $10,000 level or higher.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong initiative and self-motivation.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to relate comfortably with a variety of constituencies, including board trustees, donors, patrons, and staff at all levels.
• Adherence to the highest ethical standards with the ability to act with discretion, self-assurance and diplomacy.
• Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends essential.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) required.
• Familiarity with Raisers Edge, Tessitura, or similar fundraising database preferred.
• Bachelor degree or higher required.
