POSITION TITLE: Controller FLSA: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Accounting REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), is responsible for the recording, summarizing and reporting of transactions through the accounting system to verify the integrity of the system for all Federation operations including endowment, oversees audit and tax preparation, cash management and department policy and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting (60%) • Supervises the transaction processing for pledge receivables, accounts payable and endowment transactions to warrant that careful and timely actions are performed and recorded in compliance with established accounting principles. • Prepares and/or reviews monthly general ledger entries to provide a prompt and precise record of financial activities for audits and reports. • Maintains the general ledger system for Federation and Endowment, developing and preparing reports to facilitate the financial decision making process within the Federation. • Prepares and reviews account analyses to assure the accurate and timely management of all Federation accounts in compliance with standard accounting principles. • Provides support to the Campaign and Information Technology departments regarding donor database accounting issues to integrate accurate data and processes. • Ensure accurate disbursements and record retention of payroll and benefits. • Ensure compliance with Pension regulations. • Manage audit and tax preparation. • Oversees all cash management processes for accuracy and timeliness. • Develops, maintains and assures all policy, procedures and internal controls. Supervision (35%) • Supervise and manage the overall performance of staff in the department. Development (5%) • Support the Federation’s campaign for community needs by accurately and successfully completing special assignments according to defined timelines, cooperating with co-workers and volunteers to achieve the campaign goals. • Promotes the mission of the Federation at all times through superior customer service to all and through the efficient use and care of all resources.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field and seven years of general accounting experience with three at a supervisory level or five years of non-profit accounting experience with two years at a supervisory level; CPA or CMA certification is desirable. Position requires a working knowledge of computer systems and associated software including preferably MIP and Stellar, the ability to multitask on a continual basis, maintaining focus on details and accuracy with frequent interruptions. Must have demonstrable oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Intermittent standing, walking, stooping and bending with extended periods of sitting at desk using computer each day. Occasionally, need to lift up to 20 pounds of files, records or supplies. Must have excellent visual acuity for examining detailed financial records, documentation and computer programs.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to prioritize, organize, delegate and follow through with own work and work of others. Works in private office with frequent interruptions while maintaining careful attention to detail and deadlines.
