Background: The Kindezi School is a non-profit grassroots elementary charter school in Atlanta that is focused on academic rigor, holistic development, and serving children living in underserved neighborhoods. Through innovative approaches to school organization, The Kindezi School has created a unique academic program in which class sizes range from 6 to 8 students each.
Partly because of our small class-sizes, Kindezi already has a strong track record of growth in both academic and socio-emotional development indicators. While serving a high poverty population, Kindezi is one of Atlanta’s top 10 elementary schools, as measured by standardized tests. Furthermore, the rate of disciplinary problems per week has decreased each year by roughly 50% even as the student population has increased.
The Kindezi School is looking to build on its current success and will attempt to open a second school in 2015 using the same model and the same nonprofit entity. There are currently 163 students at Kindezi but there are already 500+ students on our waitlists. Our aim is to make schools like Kindezi—with its small classes, strong teachers, and superior results—available to any parent who wants it for their child.
