Manager of Mental Health and Training

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mental Health and Training Manager will be primarily responsible for individual and group consultation to Larkin Street staff on understanding and responding to the behavioral health needs of our client population. Consultation includes providing trainings to staff on a range of mental health issues and best practices for the population. The Manager of Mental Health and Training will also provide short term mental health services for youth and their families; and link youth to continuum of services offered through Larkin Street.

The Mental Health and Training Manager will:
•Improve the lives of youth by providing direct service (crisis intervention and short-term therapy).
•Facilitate sustainable change process within the systems through which youth receive services.
•Effectively divide time between training and coaching the implementation of clinical skills most relevant for low threshold, client centered services
•Provide ongoing consultation to staff with treatment planning, case conceptualization and stage wise assessment and intervention design promoting client engagement, safety and choice.
•Provide direct services to clients who meet the following criteria: youth in crisis and not receiving mental health services, in the referral process and requiring immediate care, seriously mentally ill and highly adverse to traditional mental health services.
•Agency assessment, intervention planning, technical assistance, observation, and coaching
•Individual/group consultation and training for staff
•Attendance at weekly case consultation/case review and administrative meetings
•Attendance at site-based targeted workshops that build knowledge and skills
•Participation in Monthly Learning Circles with community partners
•Administration of assessments and outcome measures
•Oversight of Agency wide Core Curriculum Training
•Crisis intervention and follow up planning
•Facilitation of Collaborative case planning

QUALIFICATIONS

•Master’s degree in psychology, social work or related field, clinical license or license eligible
•2-3 years of experience providing mental health services and/or mental health consultation services in a youth servings agency, with a high risk youth population
•Experience providing training in culturally informed mental and behavioral health issues
•Experience with substance abuse symptomatology; recovery and treatment philosophies
•Working knowledge of issues facing homeless youth and ability to train direct service staff:
Expertise in Trauma Informed care and approaches and ability to train diverse direct service staff
Expertise in Harm Reduction practice in community based settings and ability to train diverse direct service staff
Experience working with queer, Trans and youth of color from strengths based perspective and ability to coach and train diverse direct service staff
•Experience working with a highly diverse client and staff population
•Experience in both community mental health clinical practice and psychodynamic case conceptualization
•Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and PowerPoint
•Proficient in organizing training and dissemination of training materials
