NUTRITIONIST/REGISTERED DIETITIAN

DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision and in conjunction with guidelines established for specific health programs, implements a program of technical, educational and consultative services in the field of nutrition for a target population defined either by geographical area or by the goals of a specialized health care project or program; and performs other work as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of: Human nutrition and its relationship to health and disease, community needs and resources, social, cultural and economic programs available to individuals and families as they apply to public health nutrition, social, cultural and economic problems of individuals and families as they apply to public health nutrition, principles of institutional food service management, techniques and methods of program planning and evaluation, factors influencing food practices, appropriate education principles and methods as applied to public health nutrition. Must have specialized knowledge and clinical thinking ability to effectively plan and provide patient care consistent with nutrition practice standards and regulations

Ability to: Provide direct nutrition services, analyze and evaluate nutrition data and services, speak and write effectively in English and a designated second language, prepare acceptable materials for program use, present ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, plan, implement and organize work effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of health professionals, County agencies and employees, community agencies and the public regarding sensitive health issues.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2 years experience in nutritional assessments and providing formula recommendations to clinicians.
• Four year degree in dietetics or related field of study
• Completion of an American Dietetic Association approved internship program
• Registered Dietitian with the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR)
• Must demonstrate proficiency in a designated second language;
• Preferred requirements:
• Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian
• Certified Diabetes Educator
