Position Description
The Chief Operating Officer is a strong leader who is passionate about maternal/child healthcare for vulnerable women and babies. S/he wants to seize this rare opportunity to affect long-lasting societal change through his/her leadership in a premier public health program for first-time families living in poverty. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will have both clear vision and exceptional management skills.

Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) is an evidence-based program that empowers low-income, first-time mothers to become confident parents and strong women by partnering them with nurse home visitors. NFP has unsurpassed evidence of effectiveness, as shown through multiple scientific studies.

The COO is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and reports to the CEO. He/she leads the NFP Operations team currently comprised of nursing, program development and program quality staff. The COO works closely with leadership across all functions and with the NFP Board of Directors. S/he also is the lead for the collaborative relationship with the independent NFP longitudinal research team.

The intent is to groom the COO to lead the entire organization and take Nurse-Family Partnership to its next level, with quality program replication growth that will result in measurable societal change. This position is based in Denver, Colorado. Relocation is negotiable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Evangelizes your vision, and sets goals and metrics for Operations teams in their program implementation work with state and local customers, including development of new programs, ongoing nurse consultation, program quality assurance, and ongoing research.
• Interacts with high-level state and federal agencies, or elected officials, who may be NFP customers or may have oversight of national funding program for home visitation.
• Develops organizational strategic planning in partnership with the rest of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Provides key support to the CEO, and provides leadership of the organization in his absence.
• Develops and mentors next generation of leadership for NFP.
• Leads cross-organization team tasked with ongoing research and program enhancements. Group is comprised of NFP Operations staff and researchers at the University of Colorado Denver Prevention Research Center, headed by NFP program founder David Olds, PhD.
• Responsible for developing, managing and meeting Operations annual budget.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The COO leads the largest group at the NFP National Service Office. His/her direct reports are the directors of Nursing, Program Development, and Program Quality departments. S/he has indirect supervision of 40-plus departmental employees, who are geographically dispersed.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Broad management experience, covering multiple disciplines and with a geographically dispersed organization. Strong track record of delivering measurable results.
• Leadership role in young, quickly developing company. Ability to see and set strategy for emerging market opportunities.
• Ability to collaborate with IT on development and enhancement of strategic data tools and processes that will enable the fidelity and quality implementation of the NFP program.
• Values driven, with high emotional intelligence; able to embody the Mission, Vision and Values of NFP.
• Experience assessing, leading and building high performing teams. Skilled in conflict resolution and negotiation.
• Superb communication skills. Ability to inspire with your words and your actions.
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in health policy, nursing, public policy, or business administration preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Experience in healthcare, clinical or social services setting.
• Nursing background helpful or the ability to understand the fundamental role nursing has in the success of the NFP program.
• Experience with research to replication business models.
• Experience developing effective systems and processes to achieve strategic goals.
• Experience supporting fundraising efforts for national nonprofit organization.
