POSITION OVERVIEW
The California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and highly skilled professional to join their team as their new Controller.
Under the direction of the National Director of Operations and Administration, the Controller is responsible for the overall management of the accounting and membership staff, and provides strategic and financial leadership to the Association.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Lead and oversee all accounting and finance activities.
-Manage the Accounting Department and Membership Department staff members.
-Direct all financial budgeting and forecasting to ensure achievement of organizational strategies and priorities; including the preparation of the annual financial plan, budget, and quarterly financial reporting for Executive Staff and Board of Directors.
-Ensure effective financial/accounting policies, processes, and internal controls including oversight of membership dues collection and application of dues payments to member records.
-Provide leadership and oversight of financial operations, including cash flow management, accounting deadlines, AP/AR, year-end audit, and all required federal and state filings including completion of annual LM-2 reports.
-Supervise multi-state payroll functions, ensure compliance with all federal and state wage and hour laws, and oversee relationship with outside payroll service.
SALARY & BENEFITS
This position offers a wonderful working atmosphere, a competitive starting base salary of $115-125k, and a robust and competitive benefits package including a pension, family/domestic partner medical/dental benefits, 401(k), 15 PTO days, and 13 holidays. Generous LTC and LTD plans are also available, the employee pays the cost of the premium.

QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor’s degree (Master’s highly preferred) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
-CPA highly preferred
-7+ years of financial management, budgeting, and payroll experience in a union, nonprofit, multi-state, or comparable environment.
-Prior experience with Financial Edge and/or a comparable nonprofit accounting software system.
-Command of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
-Familiarity with SQL a plus.
-A proven track record of leading teams and supervising, developing, and motivating staff.
-Prior experience with union financial reporting requirements, procedures and standards (DOL, IRS, etc.), and personnel practices and policies.
Familiarity with employment law.
-Demonstrated passion for the mission of National Nurses United, and strong desire to impact a growing and dynamic organization.
-Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
