The promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure. The San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure raises funds, provides educational outreach, engages in public policy efforts, and allocates grants annually for local breast cancer education, screening, support and treatment services for underserved women and their families. In addition, a minimum of 25% of funds raised is directed to the Susan G. Komen research awards program administered by Komen for the Cure at our Dallas headquarters.
Position Overview: The Programs Manager designs and implements strategies to achieve program objectives consistent with the Komen San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate’s vision, goals, and priorities; is responsible for implementation of the Affiliate’s mission programming, including grant making, community outreach, education programs, public policy outreach and initiatives. The Programs Manager is responsible for managing annual operating plans and budgets for mission programs; represents the Affiliate in the local community; and provides strategic direction for current and future programs.
Reporting and Responsibility Statement: The Programs Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Oversee the Community Grants program to ensure a highly competitive grants process that funds high-impact, outcome based programs. Maintain active lines of communications with grantees.
•Manage the preparation and implementation of a high quality Community Profile that identifies the unmet service needs throughout the entire service area. Ensure the integration of the results of the Community Profile into all activities of the Affiliate.
•Identify opportunities for the development of strategic alliances and form key partnerships with individuals and organizations – in both the public and private sector – to enhance the Affiliate’s ability to influence the breast health of the community.
•Oversee Affiliate’s Education and Community Outreach and Public Policy programs, including allocation of volunteer and staff resources.
•Develop and implement other mission activities that address gaps in the underserved populations through grants, education and public policy.
•Assist on the development of and manage annual operating plans and budgets for mission programs and effectively supervise staff and volunteers.
•Maintain a current knowledge of breast health information, health care services, and applicable state and federal regulations.
•Provide input for and assist in implementation of the Affiliate’s communications plan; collaborate with Development Director on building funding models for mission programs.
•Supervise Program Interns.
•Other activities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Position Requirements: Masters Degree in public health, social work, public policy or other related discipline. At least 3 years experience with community health programs. Nonprofit experience and management experience are required. This position requires travel, some evenings and weekend work.
In addition, the successful candidate will possess:
•Commitment to mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and comfort with discussing breast health, cancer and related topics.
•Strong knowledge of the principles of community organizing and community health education. Grant making experience preferred.
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and be willing to engage effectively in public speaking.
•Strong problem-solving, priority-setting, and decision-making skills.
•Ability to work under pressure and accommodate change.
•Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects successfully.
•Excellent people skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Must be able to work with diverse groups of individuals and function independently and also as a team member in a fast paced environment with an ability to build strong working relationships at all levels.
•Excellent computer skills, with knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office suite; email, internet and database experience.
•Ability to travel within affiliate service area, to national trainings and work flexible hours (some evening and weekend work).
•Good driving record with valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance required
•Ability to engage in some lifting of boxes and moving items up to 35 lbs. required.
•Ability to provide original documents meeting Identity and Employment Eligibility as required by law.
•Acceptable results of a background check.
Working Environment: Business office setting.
Salary and benefits
•Starting salary: $70,000.
