The promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure. The San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure raises funds, provides educational outreach, engages in public policy efforts, and allocates grants annually for local breast cancer education, screening, support and treatment services for underserved women and their families. In addition, a minimum of 25% of funds raised is directed to the Susan G. Komen research awards program administered by Komen for the Cure at our Dallas headquarters.
Position: The Development Manager will work collaboratively with Affiliate volunteers and staff to plan, implement and manage specific annual giving programs, oversee the affiliate’s donor database, and provide significant support for all established fundraising events, especially our Race for the Cure®. This is a fulltime exempt staff position.
Reporting and Responsibility Statement: The Development Manager reports directly to the Executive Director
Requirements: Standard 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends required, especially before annual signature fundraising event, the Race for the Cure. Some travel requirements within the SF Bay Area. Occasional overnight travel for training and Komen meetings may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Development and Events
•Work collaboratively with the Affiliate’s Board of Directors’ Fundraising Chairperson(s) and the Executive Director in the planning and implementation of an annual Fundraising Plan to meet the Affiliate’s annual budgetary goals.
•In partnership with the Race for the Cure Chair and Committee, plan and implement our signature fundraising event, the Annual Race for the Cure – including but not limited to, corporate sponsorship, online registration and fundraising, communications and event logistics.
•Collaborate with Fundraising Chairperson(s) and Executive Director in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new fundraising activities, including identifying and soliciting new corporate and individual donor prospects.
•Implement Annual Giving activities including workplace giving, tribute donations (“in memory” and “in honor” gifts) annual direct mail and e-mail campaigns.
•Manage the process for the review of all “third party” event promotions and event proposals; ensure final “Letter of Agreement” documents are in place in compliance with Komen National’s guidelines; oversee collection of funds.
•In collaboration with the Affiliate’s Fundraising Chairperson(s) and Executive Director, determine which Komen National annual cause related marketing activities the affiliate will participate in and provide oversight to ensure support activities required of the affiliate are implemented.
•Support Fundraising activities of Executive Director and Affiliate’s Board of Directors in the implementation of Annual Fundraising Plan.
•Collaborate with Affiliate Program staff and volunteers on the planning and implementation of mission program events.
•Oversee implementation and maintenance of affiliate database.
•Oversee gift data entry and acknowledgement process and creation of custom and standard database reports.
•Ensure accurate reconciliation of database entries and Affiliate’s finance records.
•Draft all solicitation and acknowledgement letters and documents; fundraising advertising and marketing content; provide content for press releases.
•Implement and manage Affiliate’s internet fundraising activities, including drafting content and implementation of timely updates.
•Provide all Development and Komen HQ CRM content for the Affiliate’s website and e-newsletter communications.
Staff and Volunteer Supervision
•Supervise direct reports: Development Coordinator and fundraising interns
•Work collaboratively with Affiliate staff, Board and other volunteers to ensure successful volunteer recruitment, orientation and retention activities for affiliate fundraising activities
•Ensure all activities for which Development Manager is responsible for are in compliance with Affiliate and Komen National’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
Other duties as assigned by Affiliate Executive Director.
•Professional nonprofit development experience, including major event planning and implementation; volunteer management; event sponsorship solicitation. Experience in major gift cultivation/solicitation a plus.
•Commitment to mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure;
•Computer literate with knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Pro and database software, including fundraising software.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Strong organization and time management skills. Must be able to meet deadlines and multi-task.
•Have strong people skills and be willing to engage in public speaking
•Ability to work collaboratively. Must be able to work with diverse groups of individuals and function independently and also as a team member in a fast paced environment. Ability to work under pressure and accommodate change
•Good driving record with valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance
•Some lifting of boxes and moving items up to 35 lbs. required. Some evening and weekend hours.
•Successful candidate must be able to provide original documents meeting Identity and Employment Eligibility as required by law and also pass background check.
