Innovate Public Schools is a new education reform organization advocating for great public schools for low-income children and children of color in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Innovate is driven by the urgency that parents feel when their children are stuck in failing public schools.
Wage is commensurate with experience.
JOB SUMMARY and RESPONSIBILITIES
The Student Achievement Data Analyst will work with the Executive Director and Superintendent in Residence to develop stronger accountability between the public schools and the larger community through data analysis and reporting of student achievement. The focus will be on highlighting public schools and school districts where low-income children and children of color are achieving at a high level, as well as the schools and districts that are failing with these children.
The Data Analyst must have a passion and ability to find, analyze, and report data that will awaken Silicon Valley to both the deep failures of the public school system for low-income children and the bright spots of extraordinary success that exist in some public schools.
The Data Analyst will:
Analyze public school student achievement data in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.
Partner in developing the matrix of key measures of student achievement that will be the focus of Innovate’s reporting.
Prepare different reports and presentations on student achievement and public education issues in both counties designed for various diverse audiences, including parents (particularly low-income parents), the media, business leaders, school districts, and the broader community.
Staff and organize meetings and presentations related to Innovate’s data and accountability work.
Plan and execute the strategic release and dissemination of the data.
Support other organizational priorities, as defined by the Executive Director, given the flexibility required of all staff in a start-up phase.
Travel regularly within the two counties.
Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree, with preferred focus in economics, statistics, education, social sciences, or other related field; preferred Master’s level or higher.
Work Experience: Demonstrated ability and experience in data systems, design analysis, and reporting, with experience in human service sector or demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge to that setting. Preferred experience in education reform field.
Strong oral presentation skills and writer.
Ability to work in a start-up environment, requiring flexibility, self-motivation, self-directed problem-solving, collaborative work style, drive toward results, and enthusiasm.
Respect for diversity and experience in cross-cultural work environments.
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to create positive, trusting, professional relationships with diverse colleagues.
Bi-lingual Spanish preferred, but not essential.
