Canary Foundation is the world’s first non-profit organization dedicated solely to the funding, discovery, and development of tests for early cancer detection. The Foundation is based in Palo Alto.
The Canary Foundation is seeking Sales Associates (2) to identify, solicit, secure and manage teams and corporate sponsorship for our signature fundraising event, the Canary Challenge Bike Ride. The Canary Challenge is a fully supported bike ride that cruises through the Palo Alto Foothills all the way out to the coast of Pescadero. The event is held to raise funds for cancer research and innovative supportive care programs at the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI). Unlike other charity rides, the Canary Challenge ensures that 100% of all donations are directed to the event beneficiary, the SCI.
The Sales Associate will report to the Executive Director (ED) and is responsible for expanding and strengthening corporate sponsorship dollars and teams for the bike ride. Specific responsibilities include: • Identify, solicit and close new sponsorship opportunities and corporate teams • Develop and maintain client relationships • Prepare sponsorship and team proposals • Schedule and attend meetings with potential sponsors • Get the deal done (negotiating final arrangements, signed contracts, invoicing and checks in the door) • Monitor sponsorship payments and receivables • Communicate with sponsors on why their investment in this sponsorship is good for business and the benefits they will gain from this investment • Prepare and manage sponsorship financial reports • Manage events which involve sponsor recognition/acquisition • Work with the Founder, ED and bike committee members to identify, cultivate and update existing corporate relationships as well as target new ones • Coordinate with Event Manager and Marketing Specialist to ensure sponsorship deliverables are met • Become familiar with and maintain the databases associated with the bike ride
Job Requirements: • 1-3 years experience in sales, marketing and/or non-profit • Superior writing & oral communication and interpersonal skills • Bachelor’s degree (will consider an Associate Degree) • Tenacious sales mentality • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and related software • Ability to work evenings/weekends • Ability to manage multiple tasks and produce sales materials • Well organized, highly organized, people-oriented & familiarity with non-profits • Driver’s license and a car a must
