FLSA: Exempt, Grade: 20, Contract Position Responsibilities: Under general supervision, provides quality support coaching to providers participating in the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) as it relates to ensuring progress along the RTT-ELC Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). The RTT coaches are responsible for supporting and expanding providers’ knowledge on early childhood best practices as well as the common tools and resources described in the RTT-ELC QRIS through mentoring, training and technical assistance. Essential Functions: Service Goal: Consistently promotes and models courteous LAUP/community service in a prompt and efficient manner. Maintains positive relationships with all LAUP internal and external contacts through professional honest interaction. Responds to requests quickly and professionally recognizing that a request serves an organization and/or community need. LAUP Mission/Credo: Supports LAUP mission of providing high-quality preschool education to the children of Los Angeles County. Dedicated to the preschool cause (DREAM BIG), and along with LAUP team, upholds the organization to the highest standards. Daily Tasks •Provides technical assistance and support for early childhood programs participating in the RTT-ELC project •Coordinates, schedules and conducts regular site monitoring reviews according to agency policy and as needed •Collaborates with providers to identify strengths and areas for improvement after analyzing data from multiple sources and facilitates the implementation of a quality improvement plan •Validates improvement of providers based on quality improvement plans •Conducts on-site training of staff and/or coordination of other training opportunities that support broader audiences •Collaborates with Provider Operations, Quality and Fiscal Provider Services departments •Provides enrollment and attendance technical support and assistance to providers in operational contracts •Conducts provider trainings on topics such as enrollment, attendance, ECE best practices, business development, and other new LAUP programs as needed •Identifies promising practices •Promotes and models own continuous improvement and professional growth Physical Duties •Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required. May be expected to lift boxes up to 20 lbs Other Duties •Other duties as assigned Safety Practices •Adheres to LAUP general safety practices and any unique safety practices for the department and/or building Knowledge and Skills Requirements: Knowledge: •Strong foundation in early childhood education •Comprehensive understanding of quality standards and best practices in the field of early education, including knowledge of ECERS, CLASS and curriculum implementation and child assessments •Expertise in adult learning techniques, facilitation skills, and technical assistance learning systems •Knowledge of at least two systems of preschool (Head Start, State Preschool) •Knowledge of capacity building and systems change •Knowledge of child care licensing and the regulatory environment surrounding child care and preschool education as would normally be acquired through at least three (3) years of professional experience in positions directly involved in preschool education operating under Title 22 and Title 5 regulations Additional Skills: •Excellent oral and written communication skills •Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team •Strong organizational skills and attention to detail •Commitment to working with diverse individuals, groups, communities, and organizations •Strong computer literacy skills •Analytical skills applied to problem solving, planning and organization of services •Ability to be empathetic with providers and address their programmatic concerns while remaining objective and consistent to implementation of quality indicators and contract guidelines •Ability to make decisions and to think strategically •Ability to develop multiple options or solutions to reach goals Requirements / Skills: •Prior experience working in accountability system preferred •Ability to establish priorities for timely execution of responsibilities •Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken formats with audiences of widely varying educational and cultural backgrounds •Ability to develop and implement trainings •Attention to detail and ability to follow rules and regulations •Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on information from a variety of sources Preferred Experience: 6-8 years •Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a teacher in an early childhood preschool-age program and at least three (3) years as a site supervisor or director, or equivalent Formal Education: •Masters Degree in early childhood education or child development. At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in early child education or child development with at least five years of direct practice experience will be considered in lieu of Masters degree Language proficiency required/preferred: N/A
