Meals On Wheels Atlanta’s mission is to support senior independence through meals, shelter, education and community. The organization’s vision is that no Atlanta area senior is hungry, cold or forgotten.
Meals On Wheels Atlanta was created as Senior Citizen Services in 1965 to meet the needs of underserved seniors in need of critical assistance. In the 30 years before 2000, the senior population of Atlanta doubled. By 2030, it will double again. The needs-based, senior-focused creation of Senior Citizen Services set the tone of the organization, which continues to develop innovative solutions to the needs of the growing senior population. Beyond delivering more than 100,000 meals each year, the organization also offers Alzheimer’s day support, home repairs and modifications, neighborhood senior wellness centers, and companion and referral assistance.
Meals On Wheels Atlanta is currently seeking a Senior Director of Development.
SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The Senior Director of Development will be a talented individual committed to applying exceptional fundraising and networking skills to expand the major donor base and significantly increase revenues from individuals, corporations, foundations and faith-based groups.
He/she will have the following key responsibilities:
Major Gifts / Donor Cultivation (80%)
•Refine and establish a highly engaging donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are developed, existing donors are encouraged to upgrade and all major donors benefit from a closer relationship with Meals On Wheels Atlanta.
•Ensure that Board Leadership is fully engaged in resource development by working with the Executive Director to strengthen the Development Committee.
•Support the volunteers involved in the organization’s planned capital campaign. Assist with materials, scheduling, research, strategy and solicitations.
•Refine and establish strategies to cultivate donors toward greater gift-making, leveraging existing vehicles (events, direct mail, volunteerism, etc.) and strengthening or creating others.
•Refine and establish donor acquisition initiatives, introducing prospective donors to the organization and engaging newly introduced donors to involvement opportunities.
•Oversee all prospect donor research, prepare comprehensive donor profiles and briefing materials for donor calls and visits, and manage all correspondence and reporting to prospects and major donors.
•Work with the Executive Director to serve as an external face of the organization, both in prospecting and cultivating relationships.
•Develop strategies for incorporating planned giving opportunities into the individual giving program.
•Review and oversee improvements to the annual campaign.
Team Management and Development (20%)
•Mentor and lead a team of staff members and interns to handle the various aspects of fund development and communications, including annual fund, special events, grant writing/management, direct mail/multi-channel solicitations, social networking, public relations, database management, marketing/messaging, volunteer services and governmental grants.
oLeverage the organization’s strengths around special events and grants
oExpand the organization’s opportunities around planned giving and communications
•Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities and conduct annual performance appraisals.
The ideal candidate would have the following professional and personal characteristics:
•Commitment to the Meals On Wheels’ mission, vision, and values. Experience in older adult issues is a plus, but not mandatory.
•Bachelors degree is required.
•Minimum 5 years of experience working in a strategic fundraising position.
•A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high net-worth individuals in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
•Proven ability to implement a variety of initiatives that significantly increase revenue from individual donors and further a variety of fundraising vehicles.
•Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
•The knowledge, intellect, temperament and flexibility to work effectively in a fast-paced, collegial and energetic environment.
•Experience in facilitating organizational change and development within a dynamic organization and in building, mentoring and coaching a team.
•Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
•Upbeat, positive attitude with the fortitude to conduct successful campaigns and build long-term relationships.
•Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written, that assist in developing long-term donor relationships. The candidate will be able to clearly articulate the mission and passion of Meals On Wheels Atlanta.
•Principled, ethical, professional and committed to exceptional work quality and standards.
•A high level of energy and initiative; grace and a sense of humor.
