The Organization:

The Children’s Diabetes Foundation at Denver was established by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Davis in 1977 in Denver as a non-profit organization dedicated solely to the support of research in childhood diabetes and to provide the best possible clinical and educational programs for children with the disease.

The Position:

The Executive Director is the lead executive responsible for the management and overall operations of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF). The Director oversees the day-to-day operations of CDF in accordance with the Foundation’s mission to raise funds for programs of clinical care, research and education at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC). Reporting directly to the Chairman and the Executive Board, the Director implements Board policy and represents the agency to the public.

The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic direction of the Foundation with particular attention to the managing of:

• Fundraising
• Public Relations
• Foundation Development
• Special Events, with a focus on the Carousel of Hope (Beverly Hills) and the Carousel Ball (Denver)

The Executive Director performs as a key resource to the CDF Chair (located in Beverly Hills), assisting the Chair in all areas of the Foundation’s operational plan. The Executive Director manages the Denver-based CDF staff and serves as the lead executive on the Foundation’s several special projects throughout the year. In addition to managing the overall financial health of the organization; the Executive Director plans, develops and oversees the Foundation’s key development initiatives including the annual fundraising campaigns and the capital and endowment campaigns. The Director oversees the CDF public relations program including management of the public relations firms, media sponsors, coordinates the writing or editing of public service announcements and press releases. Given the profile of the Foundation, this position provides direct oversight of major, high-profile special events including development of the proposed budget, the project calendar, coordination with the Chair on planning; solicitations, committees; coordination of celebrities’ agents and publicists, the Event Kickoff and a myriad of other responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate:

Within our high-profile organization, the ideal candidate will be a professional with proven leadership and extensive (10 years) non-profit experience in a similarly-situated organization. A Bachelor’s degree with an advanced degree in a related field desired. Requires demonstrated non-profit leadership, excellent planning and organizational skills in addition to the ability to understand all aspects of the organization’s daily operations and mission.

The successful candidate will also possess demonstrated and effective leadership when dealing with the public and will possess a high level of professionalism to work with our executive board, our volunteer community and a talented CDF staff. Thus, the following attributes are highly desirable:
• Excellent organizational management, strategic planning and PR skills.
• The ability to make good decisions and sound judgments under pressure.
• Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong marketing experience with contacts within the Denver and Colorado community.
• Contacts or knowledge of the culture of the Hollywood community would also be very helpful.
• A proven track record in fundraising with the ability to maintain complete confidentiality is essential.

Event planning occurs in both Denver and Beverly Hills, California
