Deputy Director

The Deputy Director of ORAM is a member of the executive management team and is responsible for implementing policies and procedures as set forth by the Executive Director and the ORAM Board of Directors.

Guided by ORAM’s Mission and Strategic Plan and reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director provides the necessary organizational management and staff direction to ensure that ORAM sustains and maintains its infrastructure and ability to provide essential advocacy and programmatic services to LGBTI refugees worldwide. The Deputy Director supervises staff and oversees the following functions at ORAM:

• Office administration and management
• Financial management
• Resource Development/Fundraising,
• Personnel management including hiring, evaluation, and staff development
• Marketing and Development-focused communications

The Deputy Director creates and promotes excellent teamwork through effective communication, collaboration and accountability for all staff at ORAM.

Essential Functions:
• Oversee all financial management and budgeting in partnership with finance staff and off-site accounting service, including annual organization budget, proposal budgets and reporting to funders.
• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, insuring these are produced as needed for different audiences.
• Provide strategic financial input on key issues affecting ORAM (e.g., evaluation of potential alliances, projects and undertakings).

Organizational & HR Management
• Provide leadership to all project staff in the management of the organization, fostering interactive dialogue, critical thinking, teamwork, internal collaboration, knowledge-sharing and clear reporting to develop and implement the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel.
• Establish overall goals and objectives within areas of oversight, fostering well-defined expectations and outcomes.
• Identify and provide best organizational practices including specific topics for staff development, as well as emerging approaches for ORAM’s management.
• Attend board of directors meetings and subcommittee meetings as requested.
• Work in partnership with the ED to insure all policies and procedures are up to date and being implemented.
• Oversee all hiring and evaluation of staff, contractors, interns and volunteers.
• Assist the Executive Director, directors, and managers in maintenance of best practices to perform well in their respective roles as administrative, operational and program leaders.
• As a member of the Executive Management team participate in evaluating, analyzing and
• advising on the organizational and financial impact of long range planning and new program development.

Organizational Representation
• Represent ORAM in nonprofit industry-group conferences, professional associations, and other public venues.
• Actively participate in community activities.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Proven effective supervision and leadership of staff
• Strong project-management skills
• Excellent verbal and written and public communication skills
• Executive-level fiscal control and fund-raising experience
• Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
• Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or issues.
• Experience working within diverse populations and leadership
• Hands-on knowledge of personnel and accounting and nonprofit cost accounting processes and procedures
• Proficient computer skills in all standard software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office) as well as web based research, database management, and email.
• Nonprofit budgeting and reporting
• Grant management and reporting oversight

Education/Experience: MA in Business, Nonprofit Management, Economics, Finance or an allied field. In the alternative, BA in one of these fields along with relevant experience. 5 to 7 years of nonprofit experience including at least 3 years executive-level finance experience in nonprofits.

Work Environment:
Location: San Francisco, CA.

Valid Driver’s License, successful completion of a background investigation.
