COMPENSATION: $19,000-$21,000 annually DOE

THE POSITION:

Di Rosa is seeking an enthusiastic, well-organized individual to provide administrative support for exhibitions and permanent collection management, with related public programs. This is a part-time position, and includes but is not limited to, care and management of the permanent collection, and providing organizational support for rotating exhibitions and public programs. This position works closely with other staff, with primary responsibility for exhibition support tasks, including registration and collection care, and management of database and internships.

Di Rosa is a place that provokes the imagination and creative spirit of our time through celebration of the art and artists of Northern California in an extraordinary landscape. Located on 217 scenic acres in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley, the di Rosa’s internationally-recognized art collection features 2,000 works in all media, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, and video by artists working from the 1960s to the present. Di Rosa hosts approximately 18,000 visitors per year for tours of the collection and a wide array of exhibitions and educational programs for all ages.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support care and management of the permanent collection, including: management of collection records, and collection correspondence, facilitation of loan requests, and support for acquisitions and deaccessions; management and maintenance of the collection database; management of routine maintenance for and care of artworks, and coordination with conservation professionals as approved by Curator.

Support and assist with planning, coordination, and implementation of rotating exhibitions, including installation/de-installation of art in the galleries, arrangements for and moving of artwork, and recruitment and supervision of contracted preparators and interns.

Provide assistance and support for public programs and events.

Provide general administrative support for the department, including management of filing and information systems and recruitment and supervision of interns and volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: Degree in art, art history or museum studies.

Work Experience: Experience working directly in an arts organization preferred, demonstrated prior responsibility for care, handling and hanging of artwork required. Prior work in a nonprofit museum or gallery is a plus, as is experience with events and interaction with the public.

Skills and Abilities: Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing ability. Computer proficiency and knowledge is critical, including MS Office Suite, and FileMaker Pro or similar data management software. Must be able to work with speed and accuracy in a range of applications. Familiarity with web-based applications is also an asset. Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and drive a truck for transporting work on the grounds.

We are looking for a resourceful and energetic self-starter and quick learner, someone who is well organized with a strong attention to detail, interest in and knowledge of visual arts, and the ability to maintain a sense of humor while juggling multiple tasks in an informal, fast-paced environment. Must have car and valid Driver’s License for occasional errands.

Special Environmental Factors: Di Rosa is set amidst the agricultural zone of Napa’s famed wine-growing region. Must be comfortable with and enjoy nature, including a large quantity of native waterfowl and domestic peacocks that roam freely amid the sculpture on the grounds.
