Chief Marketing Officer
Midtown Alliance is a coalition of Atlanta’s top business and civic leaders and the catalyst for continued energy and progress in Midtown Atlanta.
Since 1978, Midtown Alliance has transformed a 2-square mile area in the heart of Atlanta into a premier destination for commerce, culture, living, education and leisure, attracting billions of dollars of investment, with more than 100,000 new residents and workers and more than 6 million visitors annually.
Guided by a long-range, community-driven master-plan (The Blueprint), Midtown Alliance has spearheaded an urban renaissance that is now a nationally-recognized model of success. Today, Midtown is a vital, vibrant city center inspired by what people and businesses want: a unique urban experience that is at once welcoming, walkable, convenient and attractive.
Midtown Alliance is a non-profit organization funded in part by the Midtown Improvement District, membership dues and public and private grants. The organization implements a variety of programs and initiatives including streetscape and transportation infrastructure projects, urban design, a 24/7 public safety force, daily maintenance and landscaping, transportation alternatives and events.
Midtown Alliance is governed by a 15-person Executive Committee and a 60-person Board of Directors. It operates with a full-time staff of 14 and a 2012 budget of more than $11 million.
The Position
The Chief Marketing Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team providing strong, creative, energetic leadership on all of Midtown Alliance’s marketing and communications initiatives.
The Chief Marketing Officer will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and branding strategy to drive engagement objectives for Midtown and positive brand awareness.
This individual will build a clear vision and breakthrough marketing strategies to:
1. Promote Midtown Atlanta and its unique assets as a vibrant urban district
2. Encourage continued growth of high-quality businesses, innovation, residents and visitors
3. Further a solid sense of community within Midtown and broad support of key organizational objectives and goals.
The Chief Marketing officer will inherit and implement a comprehensive rebrand and website refresh that is underway with a launch in Q1 2013.

This position includes all aspects of marketing and communications, traditional and non-traditional media relations, public outreach, website and social media, video products, publications, grassroots efforts and events.
The Chief Marketing Officer will manage staff, interns and contractors, will share responsibility to act as media spokesperson and will represent the organization at events.
Responsibilities include:
Engaging key target audiences with relevant and compelling content
Overseeing market research and district-wide benchmarking, brand positioning and message development
Ensuring that all external communications are first in class and effectively delivered
Cultivating strategic partners within Midtown including arts and cultural institutions, universities and colleges, businesses, residents, civic groups, property owners/managers/leasing agents, hotels, developers and governmental partners (city, regional and state)
Developing social media tools and outreach, communications tools, reports, and electronic newsletters. Managing graphic design, video and contractors as necessary
Communications support for all Midtown Alliance functions. Close coordination with Membership Director to ensure member engagement, growth and retention.
o Key initiatives for 2013 include working with technology anchors (universities, colleges, businesses) to continue to attract innovation and entrepreneurs to Midtown; and the launch of the ‘Midtown EcoDistrict’ – the first urban ecodistrict in the Southeast.
Setting goals, tracking progress and message penetration through relevant communications metrics, assessing performance against goals and the financial management of projects. .
Experience:
The candidate must have a BA/BS degree and at least 8 years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the following areas:
Social media tools and applications, and the development and implementation of successful social media marketing strategies and programs;

Website management and content creation using a content management system and managing web and graphic designers;
Media relations, identifying appropriate channels for stories and pitches while maintaining productive relationships with journalists, bloggers, key influentials and other strategic partners;
Planning and executing successful marketing initiatives though a variety of platforms and new media;
Creating exceptional content that engages and informs, including press releases, newsletters, articles, annual reports, op-ed pieces, overseeing or creating video content, etc.; and
Effectively managing communications and support staff and contractors.
