Komen for the Cure – Greater Atlanta Affiliate
Executive Director Position Announcement
The story of Susan G. Komen for the Cure begins with one promise between two sisters - the promise to find a cure. And to seek the cure with passion and urgency and focus until the day when breast cancer is eliminated from the face of the earth. The mission of Komen for the Cure is to enable women to detect and survive breast cancer, and the organization was founded in 1982.
Komen for the Cure’s fight against breast cancer continues, providing research funding, education, screening and treatment at its core. Komen for the Cure believes that finding a cure is about finding the causes of breast cancer, finding treatments for breast cancer, and doing everything possible to help cure the pain and anxiety of every moment in between.
Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate (Komen Atlanta) carries out its mission by raising funds that provide grants to community organizations, and that provide life-saving research funding at the national level. Komen Atlanta, on the local level, is working to reduce the social, cultural and financial conditions that prevent women from receiving quality breast health care and treatment. Komen Atlanta awards grants for innovative projects in the areas of breast health and breast cancer education, outreach, screening, and support for treatment. Komen Atlanta targets services, not otherwise available, to the medically underserved populations of Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton and Rockdale counties. Grant program priorities change periodically, as indicated by community needs assessments for these thirteen counties.
Komen Atlanta has an annual budget of $2.4 million. Its fiscal year is April 1 – March 31, and it is governed by a fifteen-member board of directors. Active committees work on the various funding and program priorities of the organization.
The successful candidate will be someone who is passionate about the work of the Komen Atlanta, with a strong background in media, communications, and fund raising. A results-orientation and a drive to work with the board of directors to take the organization to its next level of success are critically important.
Applicants must have progressive organizational leadership experience, and experience in a related field of work is preferred.
This is an exciting, rewarding position for a candidate who has the personal commitment to make a difference in an already-successful organization. Applications that contain a cover letter, resume, contact information for three references, a writing sample, and a salary history (for at least the past five years) will be accepted via e-mail or fax. Send applications, before January 28, 2013, to:
