Director of Foundation Gifts
Has primarily responsibility to oversee efforts to raise adequate funds to maintain and expand foundation and corporation giving and support to Church World Service and programs. The incumbent seeks foundation contributions that are compatible with the overall development strategy and mission of Church World Service and its partners. The incumbent researches, develops and writes proposals for submission to funding sources and collaborates with other CWS staff and partners to ensure CWS meets any reporting requirements. The incumbent will be a self-starter who works well with minimal supervision. Will represent Church World Service
Essential Duties:
Work closely with the Director of Development and Humanitarian Assistance.
Research past and current giving patterns and sectors of priority interest of foundations and corporations, including deadlines for submission of grant proposals.
Contribute ideas, thoughts and strategies for diversifying foundations and corporations who have the capacity and underlying goal of supporting an agency such as CWS.
Write, review and edit grant proposals to ensure all requirements are met.
Travel as needed to meet with donors, foundations and corporations, attend meetings and collaborate with other CWS staff, as required.
Conduct follow-up with appropriate foundation staff.
Strengthen organizational relationships with regional and family foundations through timely submissions and securing all requested information relevant to grants solicited or approved.
Ensure reporting requirements are met for any projects for which foundation and corporate contributions are secured, as well as reports required by Community Resource Program and the Resource Development Department Major Gift program.
Develop and maintain a database that includes information on all foundations/corporations which have been researched and/or to whom CWS has submitted proposals.
Ensure adherence to Church World Service funding protocols.
Prepare and submit regular monthly reports on grant development activities as well as when requested.
Collaborate with other fundraising staff in DHA, IRP and RDD to coordinate and not duplicate fundraising goals, efforts or strategies, and provide leadership to the CWS Grants Working Group, as requested.
Perform other related duties and special projects as requested.

Experience: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in proposal development and writing and/or comparable professional skills, including with regionally based or family foundations. Experience at writing proposals to generate revenues from foundation and corporate donors as well as churches, preferably for a faith-based organization. Other Skills: Computer and telecommunication technology knowledge and skills are necessary. Successful candidate must also possess outstanding oral and written presentation skills. Ability to travel as needed. |
