Parent/Adventure Teacher

The Oliverian School has an immediate opening
for a dorm parent starting with the 2013-2014 school year. Oliverian is a small
school that provides an inspiring, supportive, and challenging educational
alternative for students in grades 9-12 who have generally been unhappy and/or
unsuccessful in traditional educational settings. Working with our students is
both rewarding and challenging, and requires a genuine commitment to working
with struggling teens. Oliverian is set on a working farm in rural New
Hampshire and provides a unique and alternative school environment that
combines a substantial foundation of student support with an academic program
that balances a traditional college prep program with an alternative approach
that includes opportunities in stewardship, adventure, and the arts. Dorm
Parents live in their dorms and responsibilities include intensive residential
dorm parenting duties with some respite on rotating week nights and weekends.
The dorm parenting responsibilities, combined with advising and guiding
students with a focus on social and life skills are the foundation of a dorm
parent's work with students. Responsibilities include sleeping in and
supervising dorms and planning and participating in various on and off-campus
extracurricular activities as needed. Successful candidates must be excited
about developing vital connections with our high school students in order to
fully engage them their own development and education. In addition to primary
residential responsibilities, all dorm parents also have additional
responsibilities, either as counselors or teachers. The ideal candidate will
teach adventure and will be WFR certified. 
We are also very interested in candidates who have experience with
leading/counseling teen groups and guiding teens toward substance abuse
