Marketing and Strategic Initiatives Intern



SFS Headquarters seeks an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual to serve as an intern providing support to the Strategic Initiatives and IRMA (Institutional Relations, Marketing, and Admissions) departments. The primary projects will be online-research to gather information about US colleges and universities. The internship is designed for an individual with interest in the non-profit sector, higher education, study abroad, and/or general business and marketing. There will be ample opportunity for the intern to work with SFS senior leadership and to gain experience with an international NGO.

About The School for Field Studies: For more than 30 years, The School for Field Studies, the United States’ largest environmental study abroad program for college undergraduates, has combined hands-on, multi-disciplinary environmental studies with scientific research to propose sustainable solutions to critical environmental problems. SFS students work with local communities to discover practical ways to manage their natural resources, and in the process undergo a transformational experience that helps them to advance their careers as skilled professionals and to become globally aware citizens.

SFS creates transformative study abroad experiences through field-based learning and research. Our educational programs explore the human and ecological dimensions of the complex environmental problems faced by our local partners, contributing to sustainable solutions in the places where we live and work. HQ Focus:
SFS Headquarters provides support to resident faculty and staff at our field centers and programs in Australia, Bhutan, Costa Rica, Kenya, Panama, Tanzania, and Turks & Caicos Islands.

Location:
SFS Headquarters -- Beverly, MA

Work Schedule:
Beginning as early as February 4, 2013, we seek an intern who can work at SFS headquarters for 16 to 32 hours per week on a flexible schedule. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to a work schedule of two to five days a week with four to eight hours per day.

Reports to:
Vice President of Enrollment & Marketing

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Conduct web and telephone research on US universities and colleges
• Maintaining acquired web research information in Excel
• Assist with social media outreach

Learning Opportunities:
• Interact with senior leadership and staff at an environmental study abroad provider.
• Participate in gathering data that will drive decision-making about marketing, institutional relations and new program development.
• Attend departmental meetings and call-ins with directors of our global network or environmental field stations to gain an insider’s look at how a global NGO functions and works together
• Shadow the Marketing Coordinator to learn more about our marketing initiatives and social media outreach
• Sit-in and contribute to the HQ Greening Committee & HQ Social Committee meetings

Qualifications:
• US work authorization required
• Senior or junior college student preferred however we will consider an exceptional sophomore or freshman student who has an interest in higher education, international education, marketing or business
• Proficient computer skills; Experience with Microsoft Excel
• Prior internet research experience a plus
• Excellent organizational skills
• Cooperative attitude with team-oriented disposition
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of job responsibilities

Compensation/Benefits:
This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship for the spring semester.
