A Better LA seeks a visionary, entrepreneurial and strategic leader for their next Executive Director. Founded by football head coach Pete Carroll, A Better LA is committed to supporting Los Angeles communities in their goal to reduce violence by empowering change from within. To achieve its mission, A Better LA funds and empowers outreach workers – people who grew up in or around gangs and have turned their lives around to become positive forces in their community. The Executive Director will give a compelling and authentic voice to the mission of A Better LA and will provide leadership, both internally and externally, that builds interest in and support for the organization. The successful candidate will have a deeply rooted interest in and passion for creating safer communities and helping to transform the lives of youth through skills development, mentoring, coaching and encouraging their education. The successful candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with thought leaders, civic leaders, community-based organizations, law enforcement, youth in the communities served, outreach workers, volunteers, and donors. Ideally, candidates will have a combination of content knowledge in youth development, experience in managing comprehensive fundraising initiatives and experience in leading multi-functional organizations involved in capacity building. A career path that has provided opportunities to gain broad knowledge is as important as the experience of leading an evolving organization defined by mission and shared values. Although the successful candidate will likely have solid experience in a senior leadership position in a non-profit organization, it is also possible that candidates could come from the for-profit or public sectors. Successful fundraising experience or the potential for fundraising success is important. Knowledge of Los Angeles is highly desirable.
