The Opportunity: This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in the effort to end homelessness in Atlanta by bringing resources to a growing organization that is now assisting more than 600 people on the path to self-sufficiency each year. The Development Director will consult directly with the President on fundraising strategies and will have responsibility for researching, developing, and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to include individual, foundation, corporate and government support for Caring Work’s goals. Additionally, the position keeps the public informed about Caring Works’ progress and raises public awareness of the available services. Currently this position is solely responsible for the department, while working in close cooperation with other staff. The position may be supported by interns. The successful candidate will be energized by the organization’s mission and by new opportunities to expand the network of supporters. The position is planned as a full-time position, but to accommodate competitive candidates, CaringWorks is open to discussing flexibility in the working arrangement. CaringWorks was founded in 2002 as a non-profit supportive services provider. CaringWorks helps those who are homeless stabilize their lives and move toward greater self-sufficiency by providing housing and support. Working with private and public partners, CaringWorks has an established track record of helping even the most challenged individuals live more independently. Successful candidates will encompass most or all of the following attributes and qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree and with a minimum of three years of experience in fundraising. Previous marketing or public relations experience preferred. - Experience working with a non-profit providing social services preferred. - An excellent writer and oral communicator with demonstrated success in grant writing, text for collateral materials, and presentations to prospective funders. - Capable researcher with analytic skills. Able to gather information, research relevant statistics, identify trends and organize information into a case for the organization’s work. - Highly organized and detail oriented. Able to maintain accurate grant records, track grants management deadlines, develop record keeping systems for grant prospects, and prioritize tasks. - An ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple tasks. - A knowledge of local funding sources, preferably including familiarity with homelessness and social service specific sources such as Community Development Block Grants, United Way, Shelter+Care, etc. - An ability to network with colleagues, funders, peers and other to build strong relationships for the organization’s benefit. - Must have high computer literacy, and preferably familiarity with the use of social media, enewsletter software, and contact management systems. - Able to work successfully with staff to obtain necessary departmental information for fundraising requests. - Able to support a Board committee and communicate effectively with Board members. - A person of integrity with a demonstrated interest in the organization’s mission. The Responsibilities: - Research, develop, and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan. - Prepare timely submissions of written proposals and reports to individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities as required. - Maintain a tracking system of donor contacts, proposal submissions, deadlines, request levels, etc. - Coordinate closely with other staff to obtain necessary information for grant proposals and reports. Keep other staff aware of upcoming deadlines and funding progress. - Maintain responsive and professional communications with all funders. Ensure that funders are kept up-to-date on Caring Works activities and progress. - Prepare acknowledgements for all donation receipts and ensure appropriate recognition for donors. - Coordinate corporate external communications, including a regular enewsletter and social media efforts. - Research and maintain records on future funding prospects. - Serve as a consultant to the President on matters of public attitudes, techniques, and trends in philanthropy. - Plan and coordinate periodic fundraising and relationship building events. - Personally solicit individual, foundation or corporate gifts as required. Organize and train staff and volunteers in the solicitation of gifts as needed. Prepare solicitation packages and briefings for the President. - Support and properly engage a Board fundraising committee. - Supervise volunteer/intern recruitment. Direct and supervise interns/volunteers in fundraising and related communications responsibilities. - Make occasional public presentations before groups about Caring Works programs and services. - Perform other duties as assigned by the President. The Location: CaringWorks’s offices are located in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur at 321 W. Hill Street, Suite 2, Decatur, GA 30030. Candidate will be required to travel some within metro Atlanta. Limited out of town travel is required to attend meetings with funders and peers in the field.
