Director of Development

Community Smiles, a community-based, fully-accredited, non-profit dental clinic that provides oral health education and access to dental care for the uninsured, low-income children and families of Miami-Dade County seeks a Director of Development to manage and expand our revenue and fund-raising efforts.

Position Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for maintaining and growing the organizations revenue base through grant-writing and fundraising activities including but not limited to major gifts, events, and special campaigns. In addition, the Director of Development will generally represent and be the “face” of the organization throughout the community.

Essential Job Functions

**Develop, implement and continuously modify initiatives to communicate and inform the regarding the organization’s mission in order to raise the level of awareness including annual report to the community.
**Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
**Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish, develop, cultivate and maintain relations with donors, foundations, and other potential funding sources in support of the organization’s revenue requirements.
**Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation and government funders.
**Develop and grow individual donor base, annual giving campaign, cultivate major gifts and planned giving.
**Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices.
**Monitor trends within donor organizations to adapt fundraising activities accordingly.
**Serve as the organization’s principal spokesperson throughout the community and media.
**Works closely with the Clinic Director and Board President in managing various business needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Position requires a four-year degree in Business, Marketing/Communications, Public Administration or related degree along with not less than ten years of work experience in a professional business environment with at least five years in a nonprofit organization with an emphasis on grant-writing and fund-raising. Candidates should currently reside in Miami-Dade County and have a strong local and national professional network in the healthcare and funder communities. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as may be periodically required. Must also have the following abilities:

**Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher or other design software) and donor and/or database management software
**Ability to thrive and work effectively both independently and as part of a small team in a fast-paced and rapidly growing program, with basic instruction
**Strong attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, problem-solve and multi-task
**Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
**Ability to build rapport with donors, volunteers, and the public with diplomacy, discretion, and customer-service orientation
**Fluent English with bilingual ability in Spanish desirable
