Under direction of the Assistant Dean, College Relations and Development, and in coordination with the Dean of Social Sciences, the Director of Development designs, develops, delivers, and administers fundraising programs. Manages donor prospect portfolio and cultivates, stewards, and solicits major donor prospects. Identify new prospects through researching background information on potential donors; develop materials and proposals, and organize related programs/events. The Director of Development advises and guides the Dean of Social Sciences and faculty leaders on development policies and strategies, and assists with the setting of Social Sciences fundraising priorities and goals. Qualified candidates must demonstrate experience in fundraising as successful major gift officer; expert knowledge of and experience in all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies; a Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and five years of experience in fundraising or demonstrated relevant area; and political acumen and expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels of the university and specifically with executive and academic leaders, faculty, parents, students, volunteers, alumni, donors and donor advisors and other constituencies. Qualifications must include: expert knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure and current issues of concern for higher education generally; strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, persuasion/negotiation skills and marketing skills; skilled in making persuasive and compelling presentations of campus goals/objectives and in securing gifts; project/program management skills including setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints; and skills to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives. This is a critical position and is subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check. Work flexible schedule and occasional evenings and weekends to attend fundraising events, commencement, and to meet operational needs as required. Valid driver’s license and personal transportation required to travel in and out of California. Full-time position which is ineligible for overtime.
