Overview of Position
• Oversees all activities of the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina (AAS-C.) • Executes policies, plans, financial affairs, and philosophy of AAS-C. • Serves as primary liaison to the Board of Directors and provides guidance on all phases of management and program development. • Manages the implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. Leadership, Administration and Management • Recruit, hire, manage, and discharge paid staff and volunteers, maintaining a climate which attracts and motivates a high functioning, diverse staff. • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, as well as of each major administrative area and program. • Accept direction from the Board on governance of the agency and other, relevant matters. • Maintain official records and be certain that AAS-C is compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Revenue Development
• Manage the production of a multi-year development plan. • Take an active role in high level meetings and negotiations. • Oversee fund development activities, including grant writing, cultivation and stewardship of donors, event planning, and identifying new resources. • Build long term relationships with key donor segments. • Involve Board, staff, volunteers, and community in revenue development.
Liaison with Board of Directors
• Work with the Board to articulate a compelling vision for the organization, to develop a strategic plan, and to make periodic, formal evaluations of its progress. • Take the lead in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board. • Provide appropriate, adequate, and timely information to the Board to aid in its decision making process.
Financial and Risk Management, Compliance and Ethical Business Practices
• Maintain official records and be certain that AAS-C is compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. • Oversee preparation of the annual budget and other necessary financial documents by engaging staff, the finance committee, and the full Board. • Work with the Finance Committee and Treasurer to ensure that all appropriate tax forms and payment are correct and on time. • Prepare a budget, including an annual financial plan, and see that AAS-C operates within budget guidelines. • Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
Community Relations, Communications, and Marketing
• Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals. • Establish and maintain contacts with key individuals in both the public and private sectors, specifically including government officials at the local, state, and national levels. • Raise the visibility of the organization through the development and implementation of a strategic, sustainable marketing campaign geared to its various constituencies as well as the public. • Serve as an effective spokesperson for the organization, representing the mission and programs of the organization to corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations and the general public. • Advocate at the local, state, and federal levels on policy issues that impact people living with HIV/AIDS. • Represent AAS-C in all media relations by participating in interviews, developing press releases, and manage all other media engagements.
Qualifications Required
• At least 5 years of demonstrated success in staff leadership, fundraising, partnership development, public relations, and financial management. • Working knowledge of financial management and development, including fund accounting and budgeting and grant-writing. • Education: Bachelor’s degree; 5 years closely related, demonstrated leadership experience in the area of public health or HIV/AIDS may be substituted. • Demonstrated success of effectively leading change and organizational growth. • A deep understanding of multiculturalism and all forms of diversity. • Proven experience in program development and coordination, as well as in building alliances across a diverse spectrum. • Strong conflict resolution and decision making skills. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
Preferred
• Knowledge of health, education, and public policy issues that are faced by people within the HIV/AIDS community. • Development and implementation a strategic plan. • Development of metrics to assess program effectiveness. • Advanced degree in fields of public health, social work, or public administration.
